about

Stationed at Schofield Barracks Hawaii, the 1/27th Infantry was dubbed the Wolfhounds by a Russian general name Kolchak during World War I because of the way they relentlessly pursued the enemy. What the general had in mind was a dog known as the Borzoi - Russian Wolfhound. This dog is bred to pursue and kill a wolf, or pin it down so that the hunter can kill it. The unit mascot is named Kolchak to this day.

The motto of the Wolfhounds is Nec Aspera Terrent (No Fear on Earth).

While in the 25th one story of the Wolfhound mascot was told. One day, while being taken for a run, it broke away from the trainer, ran across a field, climbed up bleachers, fell through the bleachers and broke two legs, then got back up and crawled up the bleachers again. All this to attack and kill a German Shepherd sitting with its owner, the mascot mistook for a wolf.

WOLFHOUND

Serving his country in a foreign war.
Taking out the enemy until there is no more.
That’s just the way some-times it has to be.
To make the world a safe place for you and me.

Drive on Wolfhound. Drive on Wolfhound.
Drive on Wolfhound. Until it’s safe to stand down.

Going without sleep night after night.
Caught up in another bloody fire fight.
Doing the things that others could never do.
We will never know what all you’ve been through.

Drive on Wolfhound. Drive on Wolfhound.
Drive on Wolfhound. Until it’s safe to stand down.

Interlude

Serving his country in a foreign war.
Taking out the enemy until there is no more.
That’s just the way sometimes it has to be.
To make the world a safe place for you and me.

Drive on Wolfhound. Drive on Wolfhound.
Drive on Wolfhound. You made it safe to stand down.

Wolfhound!
